KOMPPARGASTOM

KOMUNITAS PERINTIS PARIWISATA GASTRONOMI TOMOHON

The Community Behind Every Journey

Sulawesious Encounters is not built alone.
Every journey is shaped, hosted, and protected in partnership with Komunitas Perintis Pariwisata Gastronomi Tomohon — a grassroots collective of cooks, farmers, market vendors, elders, guides, and cultural custodians working together to safeguard Tomohon’s living food culture.

Make The Food World Turn
Share Love, Share Food

Who They Are

A Living Network, Not an Institution

KOMPPARGASTOM is a community-led initiative, not a tourism company.
It exists to protect knowledge, dignity, and rhythm — ensuring that gastronomy tourism in Tomohon grows through participation, not extraction.

The community includes:

  • Home cooks and family kitchens
  • Traditional market vendors and foragers
  • Clove, nutmeg, coconut, and vegetable farmers
  • Palm sugar makers and palm wine tappers
  • Cultural elders and storytellers
  • Young local facilitators and guides

This network determines when, how, and with whom guests may be welcomed.

Why This Partnership Matters

Tourism That Follows Community Rhythm

Most travel products start with demand.
Our journeys start with consent.

Through KOMPPARGASTOM:

  • Hosts choose if and when to receive guests
  • Activities follow agricultural, religious, and family cycles
  • Sensitive knowledge is shared only when trust is earned
  • Capacity limits are respected to avoid fatigue and disruption

This is why our journeys are:

  • small by design
  • often unavailable on fixed dates
  • sometimes refused — intentionally

What KOMPPARGASTOM Does

Roles Within Sulawesious Encounters Journeys

KOMPPARGASTOM is actively involved in:

  • Identifying and preparing community hosts
  • Advising on cultural boundaries and access levels
  • Setting fair hosting fees and compensation
  • Defining seasonal availability and pauses
  • Co-designing new journeys and retiring old ones
  • Protecting hosts from overexposure or misuse

Sulawesious Encounters acts as facilitator and curator — not owner.

    Community-Led Pricing & Fair Compensation

    Where Your Payment Goes

When guests join a journey, their payment supports:

    • Direct hosting fees to families and producers
    • Preparation time and recovery time for hosts
    • Knowledge-sharing without performance pressure
    • Long-term viability of local food systems

    Pricing is therefore:

    • non-negotiable
    • per person
    • tied to real community costs

Discounting would compromise trust — which is why it is not practiced.

      Relationship Before Access

Why Some Experiences Are “By Invitation”

Certain kitchens, rituals, and meals are not always available.
They open only when relationships are ready — between host, season, and guest profile.

This is not exclusivity for status.
It is respect for living culture.

      Alignment with Global Values

      Regenerative, Gastronomic, and Cultural Tourism

      This partnership aligns naturally with:

      • Slow Food principles
      • UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage values
      • Regenerative and community-based tourism frameworks

Not through labels — but through daily practice.

      How This Affects Your Journey

When you travel with Sulawesious Encounters, you are:

      • entering a community relationship, not a tour
      • adapting to place, not reshaping it
      • participating with humility, not consumption

This is why journeys feel personal, unrepeatable, and deeply human.

Travel with a Community, Not Arround It.
