Sulawesious Encounters

Journeys & Tours

Where Food Is Lived, Not Performed

Sulawesious Encounters curates small, community-led journeys across Tomohon, Minahasa, and North Sulawesi. These are not sightseeing itineraries or culinary “tours,” but invitations into daily food life — shaped by season, landscape, and relationship.

We travel slowly, host carefully, and keep group sizes small to protect cultural rhythm and community dignity.

“Our journeys are guided, not customizable menus.”

How Our Journeys Work

Our journeys are guided, not customizable menus.
Details adapt to season, availability, and local rhythm — not personal preference.

Some meals are refined. Many are simple.
All are shared.

We welcome guests into food as it is lived — not adjusted, not performed, simply shared.

What To Expect

  • Small groups or private journeys only

  • Community tables, home kitchens, farms, markets, and selected restaurants

  • Meals prepared as they are eaten locally — sometimes spicy, sometimes with bones, often eaten by hand

  • A short prayer before meals, as part of daily life

  • Walking, waiting, and moving at local pace

Comfort is present. Control is not the focus.

Pricing Philosophy

Our pricing reflects time, access, and trust — not volume or spectacle.

In Minahasa, value is often relational rather than transactional. Some exchanges are guided quietly to protect dignity, fairness, and balance. Guests are not asked to navigate these moments alone.

You are not paying for complexity on the plate, but for the care taken to ensure that generosity remains mutual, respectful, and unforced.

Guest Suitability

These journeys are designed for guests who value depth over speed, meaning over excess, and presence over control.

They may not suit travelers seeking nightlife, rigid schedules, or extensive personalization.

Booking Process

2. Receive a proposed journey outline

Call To Action

Begin with a conversation.

“I’d forgotten how varied and delicious the food here is. For me, it packs a spicy punch that is not overpowering but is just enough. I didn’t get a chance to try a new dish like snake, rat or bat but it only adds to the list of reasons to return to this land.”
