Journeys
for Foodies

Where Food Becomes A Way To Understand Place
For many travelers, food is the most natural doorway into culture.
But in Sulawesi, food is not simply something to taste.
It is a way to understand landscapes, relationships, seasons, and community life.
Journeys for Foodies invite guests to experience food not as a performance or a checklist, but as part of everyday rhythm — through markets, kitchens, farms, and shared tables.
Rather than rushing between restaurants, these journeys move slowly between people, ingredients, and places, allowing the deeper story of food to unfold.
These experiences are designed and hosted by Sulawesious Encounters, in collaboration with community partners across Sulawesi.

What Makes a Food Journey Different?

Food journeys with Sulawesious Encounters are not restaurant tours.
They focus on:
- local markets and ingredients
- home kitchens and community cooking
- farms, gardens, and fishing villages
- food traditions connected to belief and celebration
- conversations with the people who prepare food every day
Guests do not simply observe.
They participate, learn, and share meals.
Food Across Our Journey System
Food experiences appear across all Sulawesious Encounters programs.
Instead of creating separate “food tours,” gastronomy is woven into every journey.

The Role of Komppargastom

Food journeys in Tomohon and the Minahasa Highlands are supported by:
KOMPPARGASTOM
(Komunitas Perintis Pariwisata Gastronomi Tomohon)
This community initiative works to:
- safeguard culinary traditions
- support local food producers
- document regional gastronomy
- promote Tomohon as a gastronomy destination
Through this partnership, guests gain respectful access to living food culture, not staged demonstrations.
